The SWISS WORLD ATLAS (SWA) published by the schweizerische Konferenz der kantonalen Erziehungsdirektoren (EDK) is available in three languages: German, French and Italian.

The SWA has a nearly centenarian history. The EDK has already decided on a common Swiss school atlas at its founding meeting in the year 1898. The first German edition was released in 1910 (1912: French, 1915: Italian). Since then numerous enhancements and updates were realised. The most significant revisions were made in 1932, 1962, 1981, 1993 and 2002. Emerged from the SCHWEIZER MITTELSCHULATLAS the SWISS WORLD ATLAS was published for the first time under this title in 1981. The first completely digital created edition was published in 2002.

A variety of topographic and thematic maps along with special maps in various scales provides the basis for the exemplary treatment of various topics in the SWA. The major map types are overview, economic, relief, climate, population density and political maps. In addition to the map pages the SWA also contains a subject and name index. Arranged in a regional order, starting with Switzerland via Europe to the other continents ending with the global overview maps and the astronomical part, the Atlas provides topographically and thematically a comprehensive world overview.
